About this Event

The Pilot Dance Project presents its first company repertory concert, featuring new dance works by Adam Castaneda, Ashley Horn, Jose Zamora, Lori Yuill, and Ke'Ron Wilson. Only 25 tickets will be open for each performance night.

Fresh off of Tether, Ashley Horn premieres "Little Things, Tiny Things," an exploration of the loss of people in recent years due to death or distance through the scope of tiny memories. Snapshots in time that in the past were inconsequential or mundane are brought back into focus through the lens of new-found importance and gratitude.

Lori Yuill will show “Sessing,” inspired both by N. K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth Trilogy and the break in our normal ways of sensing and relating to others caused by the pandemic. This dance is an exploration in building a world where we can re-embrace touch and proximity to others while continuing to develop other ways of sensing and responding to each other.

Acclaimed choreographer Jose Zamora, artistic director of CholoRock Dance Theatre based in Mission, Texas, will present "Tres Bailes de Amor." In this short collection of dances, Zamora explores dance theatre as a vehicle for insight and understanding of the love and attraction one person can feel for another. Offering the audience an intimate view into emotion as expressed through human physicality, these dances are perfect for anyone who is ready to be immersed in a beautifully uncomfortable and necessary human experience.

Adam Castaneda, The Pilot Dance Project's artistic director, will premiere two new works, including "Beyond the Open Window." Based on an original poem by Jordan Habibi, the piece is a collaboration among local community members that illuminates the joy of companionship, including the laughter, conversations, and gentle touches that provide the windows into each other's personal lives.

His second new piece, "The Tumult That Bubbles Underneath the Surface," is set on company dancers and explores the tension that can choke from within. Inspired by the uncertainty of the pandemic, "... Underneath the Surface," is an attempt to illustrate the beauty of perseverance and commitment, even as the world is in the process of dissipating and transfiguring into something new.

Recent Dance Source Houston Spark Grant recipient, Ke'Ron Wilson will unveil a new quartet that exemplifies his creative practice: Each piece of art and movement exploration is designed to invite the audience, or student, into a realm in which mind, body and spirit are unified towards personal and collective liberation.
