As a professional anthropologist and archaeologist, Dr. C. Thomas Shay (Senior Scholar, University of Manitoba) has composed a prairie love story. His Under Prairie Skies, sums up a near-lifetime of learning about the northern plains and its Native peoples. He has travelled its length and breadth, walked over it, surveyed its plant cover, dug into it, analysed bits of it under a microscope, and imagined what it was like before highways, railroads, and cart trails—even before human footprints. Dr. Shay's book explores content from the dinosaur age until the Ice Age, Indigenous history, the waning of the glaciers, to exploring the region’s future.
Dr. Shay will...explore the fascinating history of America’s northern prairies and their Native peoples. His talk will last about 40 minutes followed by Q&A.
