About this Event
Research Day is an annual event hosted by the Department of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Science (PTRS) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM), showcasing significant research projects and activities led by faculty, students, and affiliates at PTRS. Attendees will have the option of attending in-person or virtually.
A keynote speaker and researchers from the department will deliver lectures and hold a Q&A session following each of their presentations. A poster session highlighting current research projects happening within the department with follow the presentation session.
Registration & CEUs are free. When registering, please be sure to provide a valid email address. This course is pending 0.4 CEUs by the Maryland State Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Upon request, qualified and confirmed event attendees can receive a free CEU certificate by completing the Research Day Survey via the QR code provided on-site and posted on the event website.
Event Details
Lectures will be presented in Leadership Hall located in the Medical School Teaching Facility (MSTF) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine located at 685 W. Baltimore Street, Baltimore, MD 21201. In-person attendees should arrive promptly for a 1PM start time.
Those attending virtually will receive an email with event access instructions approximately one week before the event. When registering, please be sure to provide a valid email address. The lecture presentations will be a live-stream.
During the poster session, in-person attendees will circulate the MSTF Atrium to view the posters; virtual attendees will view the posters on-line with the ability to email authors with questions.

"Shoulder Tendinopathy - Mechanisms and Biomarkers for Patient-Specific Care”
Objectives: Describe a mechanistic model of exercise for rotator cuff tendon disorders; Identify tendon and neuromuscular factors related to recovery with exercise for patients with rotator cuff tendon disorders; Identify psychological, sensorimotor and pain processing factors related to recovery with exercise for patients with rotator cuff tendon disorders; Understand how peripheral and central biomarkers differentiate responders and non-responders to resistance exercise.
