UM Indigenous Birding Club Weekly Birding Walks

Join us for a relaxed, 1.5-hour birding walk that begins at Migizii Agamik – The Bald Eagle Lodge. We’ll gather at 11:20 am by the Louis Riel statue, with the walk starting promptly at 11:30 am. The walk will take us to King’s Park, or another nearby location, at a leisurely pace, allowing us to enjoy the sights along a mix of pavement, grass, dirt, and gravel paths. The terrain is mostly flat, with just a few gentle slopes.
These walks are open to BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Colour) folks and allies who share our belief that birding is for everyone, regardless of experience. Whether you're new to birding or a seasoned enthusiast, we welcome you to join. Just dress for the weather and be sure to bring sunscreen and water. If you don’t have your own binoculars, we have some available to borrow.
Our walks are an opportunity to connect with nature, build community, and learn from one another in a relaxed and supportive environment. Feel free to participate at your own pace — there’s no need to stay with the group the entire time, and you're welcome to come and go as you please.
Accessibility Information:
The walk covers a variety of paths, including pavement, grass, dirt, and gravel, with mostly flat terrain and a few gentle slopes.
Washrooms are available approximately halfway along the walk.
If you need assistance or have specific accessibility requirements, please let us know in advance so we can do our best to accommodate you.
Parking:
Please note there is NO free parking on campus M-F from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Parking is available for a fee in the Parkade and at metered spaces for a fee.
These walks are intended for UM students, faculty, staff, and alum.
We look forward to seeing you there!
