About this Event

May 4, 9AM to 12PM

Join Climate Smart Gardiner for a land cleanup, invasive plant removal, and tree maintenance project, or an on-water cleanup in Gardiner from 9AM to 12PM for the 13th Annual Riverkeeper Sweep. This is a rain or shine event.

If you choose to go to the LAND SWEEP, you will meet at the Gardiner Park parking lot, 131 Steves Lane Gardiner, NY 12525 (near Transfer Station).

If you choose to go to the WATER SWEEP, volunteers will meet at the parking lot at 209 Farmer's Turnpike, Gardiner, NY 12525, near the Boat Launch. Please note, all kayakers must bring their own kayaks, paddles, and PFDs, and must be EXPERIENCED PADDLERS.

We recommend that all Sweep volunteers bring a hat, sunscreen, a full reusable water bottle, work gloves and hand sanitizer. For the LAND SWEEP, please bring work boots, tick protection, and snacks. For the WATER SWEEP (Experienced paddlers only), please bring your own life jacket and canoe, row boat, or kayak with room for collected garbage. You will need to be able to paddle and gather trash along the river.

This site is suitable for elementary-aged children with adult supervision.

*IMPORTANT! To ensure the safety of volunteers, Sweep Site Leaders, professional staff, and our communities, we ask that volunteers adhere to the following guidelines:

  • Volunteers are required to pre-register for Sweep.
  • Volunteers should not participate if they have ANY signs of illness or if they have potentially been exposed to COVID-19.

Over the last 12 years, Sweep leaders have completed 1,199 service projects, bringing together thousands of volunteers from NYC to the Adirondacks to clean up 355 tons of debris, and plant or maintain 7,130 native plants. This incredible effort is made possible by the generosity of our members, sponsors, and donors. If you would like to support the continued growth of the Riverkeeper Sweep, please consider making a donation. Contributions of any amount are meaningful.
