The Ullswater Way Challenge is a 21 mile (33 km) picturesque walking trail around one of the most beautiful lakes in England. Starting at Pooley Bridge, the route circumnavigates Ullswater via magnificent waterfalls, ancient woodlands and over stunning fells. This challenge is one of the best lower-level walks in the Lake District. This circular walk takes you around the lake, mostly following the shore of Ullswater, where you will enjoy one of the most beautiful areas of the Lake District, with plenty of historic features and picturesque villages to explore on route.
The majority of the route is low-level, but there are some small hills and some rocky terrain, particularly a short stretch between Howtown and Glenridding where the path is rocky and almost continually climbs and falls.
This is a moderate route, suitable for most abilities, however, it is a LONG walk with 3,000 ft (1,000 m) ascent, so shouldn’t be underestimated!
Rest assured that all our Trails are led by qualified and experienced Mountain Leaders, who will support you and encourage you along the way.
