Join us on a beautiful 20 mile circular of Ullswater in the Lake District.
The Ullswater Lake Circular Hike is a classic long-distance walk in England’s Lake District, circling one of its most beautiful lakes. It’s rewarding but demanding.
Tickets for this event cost £30.00. This payment is non-refundable. It will only be refunded in the event of a non-weather related cancellation. *Tickets/spaces for this walk/event are pre booked and pre paid, please don't just turn up on the day with cash*
At 20 miles and 2,800 feet of elevation a good level of fitness is required to complete this hike.
This route is a classic Ullswater full circuit with a really nice balance of lakeside walking, waterfalls, quiet villages, and higher, wilder ground.
Highlights -
Pooley Bridge – classic Lakeland village start with open views up the lake
Watermillock countryside – gentle lanes and fields with broad lake glimpses
Aira Force – major early highlight: powerful cascades, stone bridges, woodland paths
Gowbarrow woodland viewpoints – elevated views back down Ullswater
Western lakeside path – scenic, dramatic walking beneath crags and trees
Glenridding – cafés, pubs, and a good rest/refuel point
Southern Ullswater shoreline – quieter, more rugged feel as you leave the village
Sandwick Bay – peaceful shoreline with wide, reflective lake views
Sandwick → Howtown fell-side path – undulating, airy walking with superb scenery
Howtown – historic steamer landing in a remote lakeside setting
Quiet eastern shoreline – long, peaceful miles with changing light and reflections
Return to Pooley Bridge – strong sense of completion after a full circuit
Please bring plenty of layers/waterproofs - this hike will be early March.
Bring enough food/water to sustain you for 20 miles.
This will be the first walk of a Lake District weekend. The following day (Sunday) will be a 12 mile walk starting and finishing in Keswick - this will be a Derwent Water circular, climbing the iconic Cat's Bells.
I will base myself in Keswick for the Friday and Saturday night. We can arrange group evening meals/drinks nearer the time.
Saturday walk - Ullswater starting/finishing location. 09.00 -Eusemere Car Park, 1 Heughscaur Clos, Pooley Bridge, Penrith CA10 2NE
