Two artworks from Uliana Novak’s 'Windows' series have been selected for display in the first exhibition of the season at Globe Art Point. Being a day-to-day object, something through which one normally looks out, the window in these artworks takes on special importance and acquires multiple symbolic meanings. It is not merely a threshold between inner and outer realms. Uliana Novak incorporates elements from Russian, Finnish, and European classical art, using them as a backdrop for contemporary content. The window becomes a gateway to the world of the past, reflecting on the differences, similarities, and interconnections between past and present. In this way, she explores the duality of time, merging two worlds and intertwining different historical and social contexts to reveal new layers of meaning.
Uliana Novak is a self-taught artist of Russian origin based in Finland since 2010. For much of her life, she worked in academia as a sociologist, exploring intrinsic dynamics of the social world. In 2022, she transitioned to painting as a primary focus, creating several series of artworks. The artist's work could be defined as figurative, cheerful and colourful. Oil and/or acrylic painting on canvas is the medium of both her self-expression and continuous research of social reality. Her sociological perspective informs her art, as she narrates stories about people and society through whimsical sketches that blend humour and depth. Influenced by social satire, caricature traditions, and naïve art, her work serves as a playful yet thought-provoking lens on human interaction and societal structures.

GAP WINDOW is a window exhibition project initiated by Globe Art Point in 2021. The concept was created for the members of GAP Creatives Database with an aim to provide a unique opportunity to exhibit and/or experiment with their own artistic work and ideas. The project does not follow any specific theme, and it can be done in various forms, from painting directly on the windows through displaying visual poetry, paintings, photographs, illustrations to streaming media and digital art.
