The 3rd Annual UL Lafayette Krewe de Coulee is happening on March 6th, the Thursday after Mardi Gras, from 1:30pm - 4pm at the Blackham Coliseum to clean up the Lafayette Parade Route to keep our storm drains, coulees, and Bayou Vermilion free from Mardi Gras Litter!
Krewe de Coulee is an annual post-Mardi Gras community clean-up event hosted by the Office of Sustainability and Community Engagement and Parish Proud. Following the Mardi Gras season, litter left behind from parade goers and parade throws pollutes our beautiful campus and community. This waste can enter the nearby drains and coulees that run through Lafayette and damage our Bayou Vermilion Watershed. Help us keep our campus and community clean and beautiful this Mardi Gras season by volunteering at Krewe de Coulee! Last year's Krewe de Coulee had 170 volunteers in 40 krewes and 1 Coulee Monster collect a total of 1,085 lbs of Mardi Gras litter from 60% of the Lafayette Parade Route. Help us make an even bigger impact this year!

Additional initiatives to keep our campus and community clean and beautiful this Mardi Gras season:
🔹At Krewe de Coulee we will also be recycling beads with Arc of Acadiana with designated bead recycling bins along the route. Volunteers will be collecting beads and recycling them with Arc of Acadiana so they can clean and repair beads to keep Mardi Gras beads in circulation and out of the waste stream.

🔹The Lemoine Company has partnered with Parish Proud and UL Lafayette’s Office of Sustainability and Community Engagement to safeguard our waterways! The Lemoine Company will strategically place 15 protective wattles at storm drains along the parade route on campus before the parades start rolling to prevent litter and beads from entering our storm water system and polluting the Bayou Vermilion.
