How is thinking changing during the war? How do we rethink the most fundamental concepts of our existence – life, death, birth, rebirth, time, space, love, politics, history, society, etc.? How can this experience enrich the philosophical tradition of humanity?
Bio: Dr Volodymyr Yermolenko (born 1980) is a Ukrainian philosopher, journalist and writer. President of PEN Ukraine. Doctor of political studies (France), PhD in philosophy (kandydat nauk, Ukraine). Analytics director at Internews Ukraine. Chief editor of UkraineWorld.org, a multimedia project in English about Ukraine. Associate professor at Kyiv-Mohyla Academy. Book writer (non-fiction and fiction), winner of Myroslav Popovych Prize (2021), Petro Mohyla Prize (2021), Yurii Sheveliov Prize (2018), Book of the Year prize in Ukraine (2023, 2018, 2015) and others. Head of the board of the International Renaissance Foundation (Open Society Foundations). Public lecturer. Author of podcasts “Explaining Ukraine” and “Thinking in Dark Times” (in English), co-author (with Tetyana Ogarkova) of “Kultpodcast” (in Ukrainian). Author of numerous articles in international and Ukrainian media. Published in The Economist, Le Monde, Financial Times, New York Times, Newsweek, gave numerous comments to BBC, CNN, Al Jazeera, France 24, France Culture, Radio France International, etc. His texts and interviews have been published in Ukrainian, English, French, German, Spanish, Polish, Italian, Russian, Dutch, Norwegian, Czech, Greek, Chinese and others. Vakhtang Kebuladze „Social Contract and Political Nation in Ukraine“
Ukraine is currently in the process of forming a political nation. The distinctive events of recent history made it necessary to understand this process and, at the same time, made such an understanding possible. The concept of the social contract is a key to such an understanding. On one hand, without understanding the fundamental features of the social contract which underpins our socio-political existence, we cannot hope for the final formation of a full-fledged political nation and a truly independent state. On the other hand, Ukrainian historical and political experience highlights some fundamental aspects of the social contract phenomenon itself.
Bio: Vakhtang Kebuladze – philosopher, publicist, translator, Dr. habil., full professor at Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, associate professor at National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, prize-winner of Ukrainian PEN International 2016, member of the board of Ukrainian Philosophical Foundation, co-chairman of Ukrainian Phenomenological Society, chairman of the editorial board of the book series “Library of Classical World Academic Thought” (Ukraine), member of Ukrainian PEN International, member of the editorial board of Philosophical Thought Journal (Ukraine), member of academic council of LIBRI VIRIDES book series (Germany), member of academic council of “The Interlocutor Journal” (Poland), member of the board of international organization “Central and East European Society for Phenomenology”, member of the Council for Development of Art Arsenal (Ukraine).
Author of the books Phenomenology of Experience (in Ukrainian), Meshes of Fate (in Ukrainian) and more than 90 articles in Ukrainian, English, German, and Polish, which were published in Ukraine, Austria, Czechia, Germany, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia.
