Let’s Celebrate Ukrainian Culture together! This concert presents the Ukrainian Lullaby Project, developed in collaboration with The Lullaby Project, a program of Carnegie Hall’s Weill Music Institute.
At UNC–Chapel Hill, the project was implemented by the Center for Slavic, Eurasian, and East European Studies (CSEEES) through a series of workshops held in 2025. Ukrainian women living in North Carolina worked closely with professional artists and musicians from both the United States and Ukraine to compose new lullabies rooted in personal experience, cultural memory, and family life. As a result of this collaborative process, seven original lullabies were created and are now presented in this concert.
The program combines these new works with traditional Ukrainian lullabies, offering audiences a broad perspective on Ukrainian musical heritage and contemporary cultural creativity. Performers include Oksana Kowcz, soprano, actress; Alona Cheek, soprano; Galyna Karpenski, soprano; Valentyna Dorodko, collaborative pianist.
This program represents an opportunity to support Carnegie Hall’s mission of community-centered music-making while advancing international cultural engagement, public education, and meaningful community partnership.
This concert is co-sponsored by the Center for Slavic, Eurasian, East European Studies, Department of Music, Ukrainian Cultural Forces, and Carnegie Hall Music.
