About this Event
UBUNTU Asheville Community Circle February 2025
UBUNTU Asheville is a safe space for exploring challenging ideas. This month's idea: fostering healthy community in the face of political division. Circle prompts could include questions like:
- How can we connect when we don't seem to share values?
- How do we want to support each other when harmful things happen in our community?
- What would we like youth in 50 years to remember about Asheville in 2025?
Within a facilitated conversation circle, participants will share their ideas about a specific concept. Past circles have shared ideas around racism, relationships, communication, and community. Topics are not avoided because they are "controversial", and UBUNTU Asheville is not a space for grandstanding or trauma dumping. This circle is for practicing hearing one another and being heard.
Facilitated by a certified mindfulness coach and Reiki Master, UBUNTU Asheville aims to be a space within which members of the greater Asheville community can meet and truly see/hear one another.
"Ubuntu" is an African concept about shared humanity. It is commonly translated to mean "I am because We are". Meaning... there is no me without you. There is no you without me. We are all inherently interdependent and of inherent value and worth.
Feel free to join us!
*If you need to speak with a therapist or counselor, please do so. UBUNTU Asheville (or UBUNTU AVL) is not a replacement for therapy and it is not a support group.*
