The title of this Year's Show is "ExtraORDINARY." This theme and title relates to how we pay attention to the "ordinary" world around us, honoring the mundane, the every day and the sometimes overlooked. Artists are encouraged to reveal ordinary subjects in either a straight forward fashion or in creative ways that transform the ordinary into something ExtraOrdinary.

NOTE: Some work will be printed and hung on the walls of the Gallery in B1 of the MCB. Other work could be projected digitally in that space. Other works not in the gallery may be invited to be displayed in UAC Common Areas during and after the show.

Therefore the work should be submitted under that individual's name. [If it is a film, the submitting artist should be in a major creative position on the project: Writer, Director or both.]

How Do I Submit to the Show?

STEP 1 - PREPARATION

1. Create a Google Drive Folder Titled: UAC Art Show 2024_NAME_Major

2. Gather any physical or digital work you want to submit to the show.

3. Take photos or scans of ALL physical submissions by the November 8 Digital Submission Deadline AND, then, bring those physical submissions to the 9th Floor Lobby by November 22 (so the judges can see them in person).

4. Upload your individual files of your digital works into your Google Drive folder and MAKE SURE TO NAME (and NUMBER) EACH FILE in the following way: AS24_FullName_UID_CATEGORY_SubCategory_#(Example: AS24_DustinSchwindt_u1234567_PHOTO_Digital_1)

5. If you have taken any photos or scans of physical submissions (Paintings, Sculptures, etc.), name those image files and place them in the folder as well (Example: AS24_DustinSchwindt_u1234567_2D_Painting_1)

6. If you are submitting a Photo Essay, give a number to that series of photos and a letter to each individual photo. (Example: AS23_DustinSchwindt_01234567_PHOTO_Essay_1A ; AS24_DustinSchwindt_u1234567_PHOTO_Essay_1B; and so on...

7. OPTIONAL: Prepare a Cover Letter* for your submission that you will add to your Google Drive folder. Name it the following way: AS24_FullName_UID_COVER

8. OPTIONAL: add a recent photograph of you, the artist to your folder. Name it as follows: AS24_FullName_UID_PROFILE

NOTE: The name DustinSchwindt and UID number (as written above) are just examples. You need to write your own information for your submissions.

STEP 2 - SUBMISSION

1. Email the LINK* to your Google Drive Folder to Professor Schwindt at [email protected]. Title the email: Art Show Submission - Full Name - UID [Make sure to select "Anyone with the Link" for the permission before you copy the Google Link and send it]

*Note on the Google Drive Folder Link

• Make sure you have EVERYTHING in the Google Drive folder before emailing the link.

• Make sure to select "Anyone with the Link" before copying the link into your email to Professor Schwindt. The organizers do not have time to email you a permission request for your folder. We will need immediate access.

*Note on the OPTIONAL Cover Letter:

If you choose to submit a Cover Letter, it can be fairly informal, but it is chance to introduce yourself, list the work you are submitting, and specify how you would like that work displayed (print size, etc.)

Therefore, Your Cover Letter should include:

1. A short, polite greeting

2. A brief Artist Bio including your current Major

3. An ORGANIZED list of the works you are submitting with the SAME file names as the files you are dropping into the Google Drive.

4. Next to each listed work, you can state the Title of the piece (if you have one) and any display specifications (print size, etc.)

5. IF YOU CHOOSE, you can include Artist Statements for Particular Works and / or a general artist statement for a collection of work. [Artist Statements are not required but they can be a nice addition to the piece or to a collection.]

If you need help drafting your artist statement(s) or cover letter, please contact Professor Dustin Schwindt or the UAC Writing Center (and show them this web page for a reference.)

IF YOU HAVE ANY ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS, EMAIL PROFESSOR SCHWINDT: [email protected] OR STOP BY HIS OFFICE: U917

FINAL NOTE: SIZING ART FOR DIGITAL IMAGE SUBMISSION

Ideally, each digital image should be be at least 1 MB in file size. 2 to 4 MB is good and 10 MB should be the maximum.

The Art Show Judges reserve the right to determine the final printing size of each image; however, to help the committee, you can submit MULTIPLE copies of each image in different sizes suitable for framing. Here are the precise sizes UAC uses for standard framing: (You can add these measurements to the file name for each of your submissions after sizing each one)

  • A1 (492 mm x 692 mm)
  • A2 (392 mm x 492 mm)
  • A3 (292 mm x 392 mm)
  • A4 (202 mm x 292 mm)
  • A6 (92 mm x 142 mm)
  • LARGE SQUARE (532 mm x 612 mm)

NOTE: If your work is in a custom size that cannot fit one or more of the above dimensions, you may still submit the work. Sometimes the committee will arrange a custom matte or foam board print for certain images.
