Tū Tangata: Māori Cultural Competency - 2022
There is a saying in Māori, ka tū tangata koe, ka tū tangata hoki ahau (if you maintain your integrity, you allow me to maintain my integrity).
Tū Tangata is a practical seminar designed to give staff the confidence to engage with Māori students, colleagues and key stakeholders with the utmost cultural integrity.
In particular, the workshop will give participants the foundational skills and understanding required to begin to integrate Māori values into teaching practices and research by enabling staff to properly pronounce and utilise the Māori language to build rapport and engage with students and key stakeholders in a culturally safe manner with knowledge of cultural etiquette and customary practices.

Presenter : Tania Te Whenua (Tūhoe, Whakatōhea) is a teacher and former programme manager Māori at Victoria University Centre for Lifelong Learning.
As principal of Te Whenua Law and Consulting, she assists a wide range of organisations across New Zealand to realise a commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and enhance responsiveness to Māori through advisory and education services.
Tania is supporting the Mahi Tahi programme both as a strategic consultant and educator.
