- Abraham Lincoln, 1858
About this Event
Back by popular demand, and drawing inspiration from Abraham Lincoln's legendary humor and self-deprecation, President Lincoln's Cottage and The DC Improv are again partnering to present Two Faces Comedy, the first comedy series to transform Lincoln's living room into a comedy den! Each show is meant to be inspired by some aspect, silly or serious, of Lincoln's legacy or the history of the cottage.
This will be a series of comedy nights, beginning on September 25, and continuing October 24 and November 14. Doors open at 7pm, all shows begin at 7:30pm.
TICKET INFORMATION
$10 per show
Tickets are non-refundable. Shows will occur rain or shine.
CASH BAR - Beer and seltzer will be available for $5/drink at each show.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 25 - PARENTING
The Lincolns were parents to four boys - the younger two of whom had a reputation for interrupting their dad's meetings and generally doing whatever they liked whenever they wanted. Our September show features a stand-up showcase focused on parenting. The Lincolns used the Cottage as a family retreat for three summers in a row, and our performers will honor that history by complaining (lovingly) about their own kids.

ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
Phil Mike is a Washington DC-based comic who’s performed on many of the top stages in the region. He entertains wide arrays of audiences with his relatable, honest takes on life. He’s opened for Alingon Mitra, Andy Haynes and Eliot Chang.
Elena Torres is a Spanish-American telenovela actress turned stand-up comedian. No, that is not a joke. After several hit telenovelas in Mexico under her belt, she fell in love with a nice Jewish East Coast guy and realized her heart wasn’t in on-camera face slapping anymore. So she took the next logical artistic step from doing melodrama in Spanish; she started performing stand-up comedy in English. She threw out her telenovela push up bra, moved to the East Coast and has performed in venues all over the country. She also has a sketch page called Human Factor Comedy. (Ok ok, she didn’t throw out her push up bra – those things are expensive … and they work wonders – but you get the idea.)
Katie McKelvie is a comedian and humor writer whose comedic style has been described as "tired mom who has to run to the grocery store after this show to pick up some bananas." Katie can be seen performing all over the Washington, D.C. area and has featured at the Cleveland Comedy Festival, She-Devil Comedy Festival, the Charm City Comedy Festival, and the North Carolina Comedy Festival. In her spare time, she enjoys a fleece blanket, a comfort shoe, and naps.
During the day Haywood Turnipseed Jr.is a Husband, a Dad, a Telephone Man, and a Jedi; at night he becomes a Stand-Up Comic, and occasionally a Sith Lord. Haywood likes both Michael Jackson's & Prince's Music; Hip-Hop; The Pittsburgh Steelers Football Team; Mambo Sauce on chicken wings; and Laughing. Originally from the Holy Land of Indiana, Haywood graduated from high school in Moon Township, Pa., attended two semesters at Waynesburg College, then enlisted in the US Air Force.
