About this Event
What is this awesomeness?!?
Join us for a weekend of queertranstastic fun, learning, workshops, networking, revelry, and more! This is our seventh year hosting the Queer Gathering at Twin Oaks Community in rural central Virginia, and we invite you to come participate as an attendee, workshop presenter, and/or performer. The gathering will be a supportive and welcoming camping event for queer folks and allies of all ages to come together, skill share, make art, build community, dance, and organize.
This is a participant-led/co-created event, so while the organizing team will set up the event site and create a general schedule of activities, the content is largely up to YOU! There is opportunity to lead a workshop, DJ some of the dance party, bring your instruments to jam, offer an interest/identity-based meet-up (BIPOC dinner, non-binary lunch, comic book breakfast, etc.), and more! Just let us know ahead of time at [email protected] or post a card on the bulletin board when you get here!
Programming goes from Friday evening to Sunday evening (2025 Schedule TBA). Attendees are welcome to stay through Monday morning, but there is no programming on Monday.
Sharing Responsibility
In our strongly individualistic society, sharing and acting in community is an inherently radical act. It also keeps our costs low so that the conference is financially accessible to more people. Participants are asked to do at least one 2 hour work shift during the weekend. Some tasks include (but are not limited to): set-up, registration, childcare, kitchen help, cleaning, and more. Please do your part in making this fabulous event possible!
Sliding Scale
We suggest $100 to cover our costs for a whole weekend of camping, food, fun, and community organizing. However, we want to be as financially accessible as possible and are offering tickets on a sliding scale basis of $50-$200. Please pay what you can! If you are experiencing financial hardship, you may purchase a work trade ticket for $40 and sign up for 2 work shifts instead of one. No one will be turned away for lack of funds! Please let us know if the ticket prices are inaccessible to you and we can work something out.
Travel stipends are available to anyone who needs them! Priority to BIPOC and trans folks. Email us at [email protected] to make a request :)
Indoor Accommodations
In past years, we have offered limited indoor accommodations for the weekend. This year, we will not be able to offer on-site accommodations, but may have connections to very nearby accommodations. If you're interested in indoor accommodations please email us at [email protected]. If indoor accommodations are a must for you, please hold off on registration and email us at [email protected] and we will be in touch about availability.
All attendees must provide proof of a negative covid rapid antigen test taken between September 10th and 12th. We will have a limited supply of tests on-hand available for sliding scale $5-$15 at the event if needed. No one will be allowed into the gathering space without confirming a negative test result.
Please stay home if you are feeling ill, have recently been diagnosed with Covid-19, or have had direct contact with a suspected or confirmed Covid-19 case. If you do not attend or need to leave early due to COVID-19, we will happily refund your registration fee. Even with these guidelines in place, there is some risk of Covid-19 exposure, so please consider this when deciding to attend this year.
