Twilight Tour: Craftism

A Twilight Tour exploring crafting heritage items in the Glasgow Museums stores.
Throughout the pandemic many people have taken up fabric and textile crafts. With climate change on people’s minds, finding new ways to live sustainably has become ever more important. Textile crafts are the perfect example of something that can improve mental health, give people a new skill and sense of achievement, and can help in the fight against waste.
Activists throughout history have also used fibre art to spread messages of love, peace, and understanding. From photographs of people crafting in the past, to sewing and knitting machines, patterns, needles, darning mushrooms, eggs and Speed Weves, knitting, embroidery, and sewing samplers and darned stockings.
This tour will look at the objects left to us by Glasgow’s past crafters.
Please meet at reception. Bags and Jackets must be removed before entering the stores but secure storage is provided.
