The Twentynine Palms Book Festival returns, blending literature, culture, and a hint of rebelliousness.
About this Event

After the successful debut of its inaugural festival last October, the Twentynine Palms Book Festival is back, offering a laid-back yet enriching experience blending literature, culture, and a touch of rebellious spirit.

Situated near one of the largest Marine Bases in the United States and drawing a burgeoning population of post-Covid transplants, Twentynine Palms is a quaint rural town adjacent to the breathtaking Joshua Tree National Park.

The festival caters to a wide audience, serving residents and neighboring community members and a growing influx of tourists exploring the wonders of California’s Mojave Desert.

The first edition received positive feedback and honorable press coverage for its diverse mix of authors, live sessions, book signings, and a lively book fair.

The 2024 edition will take place over two days, on Friday, November 8, and Saturday, November 9. We anticipate 500 visitors, including reading enthusiasts, acclaimed authors, guest speakers, and journalists.

Highlights of the 2024 Twentynine Palms Book Festival:

DIVERSE AUTHOR SHOWCASE. The festival will host 29 established and up-and-coming authors, representing a rich tapestry of storytelling talents.

LAID-BACK BOOKFAIR. Featuring a young readers’ zone, poets’ corner, and a photo expo presented by the Harmony Motel and dedicated to U2’s iconic album cover, The Joshua Tree, the bookfair will run from 3 PM to 9 PM on Friday, 8 November, and from 10 AM to 7 PM on Saturday, 9 November.

LIVE SESSIONS PROGRAM. On Saturday, 9 November, from 10 AM to 7 PM, the Old Schoolhouse Museum will host live sessions covering compelling themes: Native American Narratives, Eco and UFO literature, Inspirational storytelling, and the influence of 70s underground comics.

A tribute to a group of audacious women who contributed to Wimmen’s Comix, an influential feminist comic book series that emerged in the 1970s; an evening dedicated to crime fiction readings; and our ritual closing party at Mas O Menos, this year in collaboration with Red Light Lit.
