Three Notch’d Road celebrates Christmastide with something Baroque Italian composers do best: musical expression of life’s fierce joy.
Christ-child and Mother are honored in Alessandro Scarlatti’s “Cantata pastorale” and selections from Claudio Monteverdi’s “Vespro della Beata Vergine.” We’ll mark Giovanni Antonio Pandolfi’s 400th birth year with his gorgeous sonata for violin “La Castella,” warm our hearts with the Roman glory of Arcangelo Corelli’s chamber music, and bring in the New Year with Antonio Vivaldi’s auditory fireworks—the virtuosic “La Folia” for two violins.
