Dust off your Boneshaker, polish up that Velocipede, or simply bring along the trusty two-wheeler you ride today, at the first inaugural Tweed Ride of the Chippewa Valley! Riders of all ages are invited to showcase their sartorial style and creative bike adornments in a costume and decor contest, donning their finest tweed, wool jackets, skirts, caps, bow ties, and argyle for an afternoon where time rolls backward and the trail becomes a moving parade. We shall gather by the splash pad court (just behind Playmakers) in River Prairie Park for registration and genial fellowship before our leisurely rollout. Along the 9.75-mile promenade, we’ll pause for a portrait at the 10th Street Park Gazebo, linger at The Yards for local flavor and lore, and then converge at Lake Altoona County Park for tea from flasks, picnic hampers, lawn and parlour games, and the grand voting of the day’s most dashing vestments and bedecked velocipedes. As the sun sets, we return in procession to River Prairie, drawing the day to a close at our own leisure.
The ride is free to join, though gracious donations are welcome to make next year’s Tweed Ride even finer. Bring along a flask of tea, a hamper of provisions, a game of cribbage or cards, and, above all, your choicest tweed and high spirits!
