Please bring all Veterans' Bags to the SU meeting on Nov. 12th. We need to know how many bags you are expecting to donate and how many badges you need. Ideas to fill a cold weather Veterans' Bag:
Warm hats – Knit hats that cover the ears are the best choice. This is also a great opportunity to make warm hats yourself. You can knit, crochet or sew hats from fleece.
Scarves – You can knit, crochet or cut fleece scarves yourself. Store bought new and used scarfs keep in the warmth just as well.
Gloves – Look for both thinner and heavier gloves so that they can be layered.
Socks - Wool, thermal or winter weight. Dry feet are key to warm feet.
Rain Ponchos – Winter in Asheville is full of rain and sleet. You can find these in the camping section of stores or at the Dollar Tree.
Instant Heat packs - for body, feet and hands.
Lip Balm – Extreme temperatures are tough on exposed skin and that includes lips.
Hand Lotion – Chapped hands are an issue during cold weather.
Tissue Packs - Everyone appreciates soft tissues
Mints or Hard Candy – Everyone needs a treat and hard candy can also soothe a sore throat or cough.
Non-perishable food and snacks - Look for softer versions since many in the homeless populations deal with dental issues.
Baby wipes, Body wipes or hand wipes - Everyone feels better when they are clean, but not everyone has access to a shower. Wipes are a way to keep your body clean without running water.
Deodorant or Antiperspirant - Everyone is easier to be around when they smell good.
Toothbrush with small tube of toothpaste - many in the homeless populations deal with dental issues.
A heartfelt note – Let your recipient know that you care.
