About this Event
Join Tett Artist-in-Residence Meenakashi Ghadial on the Summer Solstice for a Turmeric Anthotype printing workshop. Turmeric, known for its vibrant colour and integral role in Indian cuisine, contains curcumin, a compound that acts as a photosensitizer. This means it reacts chemically when exposed to light, making it ideal for printing images using a technique called anthotype.
Anthotype, developed in the 19th century, utilizes plant emulsions and sun exposure to produce images on porous surfaces such as paper and cloth. During the workshop, participants will produce three original prints using this unique method. Participants will gain hands-on experience with a new printmaking technique that can be easily done at home.
Ages 16+ | Thursday, June 27, 5PM -7PM | Rehearsal Hall (room 203)
Participants will be asked to send the image/photograph you'd like to work with to the instructor at least 2 hours before the workshop. We also ask that participants bring any additional translucent material that light can shine through (lace, ribbon, etc.) or any plants/other materials that you would like to use in your prints. Please also bring an empty photo frame with glass that is at least 8" x 10". This will be used to press down our prints and hold it in place so that it can develop in the sun. If this is not possible, we can always tape our print to a window for it to develop as well.
