Turfgrass Fertilizer BMPs - Seminar 2 of 3

The Sussex Conservation District (SCD) in partnership with the University of Delaware Cooperative Extension (UDCE) is pleased to announce a series of seminars aimed at improving water quality through effective stormwater management and best management practices (BMP). The seminar series will kick off on Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2024. Each session will run from 10 to 11:30 a.m., at the Carvel Research and Education Center in Georgetown.

The seminars are designed to equip homeowners, homeowner associations, and industry professionals with the knowledge and tools needed to become better environmental stewards. According to the EPA, stormwater runoff from yards, streets, and other areas is one of the most significant sources of waterway contamination, making this education critical for safeguarding Delaware's waterways.

Turfgrass Fertilizer BMPs – Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024
John Emerson, UDCE turfgrass extension agent, will discuss the new Delaware Livable Lawns fertilizer guidelines and address common misconceptions about turfgrass fertilization. "If you are new to Delaware, we want you to learn how your actions on private land, at home and in community open space, affect water quality for all in Sussex County," explained Emerson.

Enhancement and Funding Opportunities – Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024
Blake Moore, UDCE natural resources extension agent, will review how to attract beneficial insects and enhance stormwater facilities with native plants. Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control Conservation Program staff, Ben Coverdale and Holly Walker, will review watershed-based BMP funding opportunities.

Seating is limited, and preregistration is highly encouraged. Delaware nutrient management credits are pending for these events.
