Event Information: Join us at the American Indian Chamber of Commerce of Tulsa's July luncheon for an intriguing conversation with two distinguished speakers, both experts on Tulsa’s history, J.D. Colbert and Dr. Russell Cobb.

Delve into the untold history of Tulsa's Native American origins and uncover the corruption and injustices that fueled its rise as the oil capital of the world. Books by both authors will be available for purchase. Don't miss this chance to explore the hidden facets of Tulsa's complex and often overlooked history.

Speaker Names: J.D. Colbert, President and CEO of Holisso Hakv Inc. and Dr. Russell Cobb, Coordinator of the Media Studies Program and Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies at the University of Alberta

Speaker Information: J.D. Colbert is president and CEO of Holisso Hakv Inc., a banking and financial services consulting and advisory firm. He is a recognized expert on matters related to commercial banking and Indian tribes. J.D. has been the President of three banks and a board member of five. He is also active in legal, regulatory and policy formation in the areas of banking, community development, economic development, and Federal Indian policy. He is an author, columnist, and expert mixologist. He holds an undergraduate degree in business management from the University of Oklahoma and master's degrees from both Harvard and Johns Hopkins Universities.

Dr. Russell Cobb is a writer, media producer, and instructor at the University of Alberta, where he is the Coordinator of the Media Studies Program and Director of Graduate Programs in the Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies. His latest book, to be released summer of 2024, is titled The Ghosts of Crook County: An Oil Fortune, a Phantom Child, and the Fight for Indigenous Land (Beacon Press). His book The Great Oklahoma Swindle: Race, Religion, and Lies in America’s Weirdest State (Bison Books) won a Director’s Special Merit Award from the Oklahoma Department of Libraries in 2021. His nonfiction writing has appeared in Slate, NPR, The New York Times, and The Nation, among other places. The 2018 Netflix film “Come Sunday” is based on his story “Heretics” for This American Life. He hosts a radio show and podcast called History X about history not on the syllabus.
