100 Years of Round the World Radio ContactThis October, the Otago Settlers Association’s Tuesday Club welcomes members of the New Zealand Association of Radio Transmitters, speaking about the 100th anniversary of round the world radio contact, achieved in Dunedin in 1924.
Frank Bell, a young man from Shag Valley, exchanged messages with Cecil Goyder, a school student in London, on 18 October 1924, establishing the first two-way, round the world radio contact. Now, 100 years later, we look back at that achievement in a whole new light, appreciating the doors it opened up for the future of communication.
This event begins with refreshments and an opportunity to chat with Otago Settlers Association members.
