Join us for an inspiring and unconventional Tuesday at 12 performance with oboist, composer, and interdisciplinary artist Catherine Lee.
About this Event

In Life Work: An Interspecies Collaboration with the Domestic Silkworm Moth, Lee explores the full life cycle of Bombyx mori through a multidisciplinary lens. The program features original music for oboe d’amore alongside field recordings, video, photography, and textile art — all inspired by, and in creative dialogue with, the domestic silkworm moth.

This immersive experience will include:

  • A short talk by the artist on the biology and symbolism of the silkworm
  • Live performance with visuals and recordings
  • Interactive displays of silk, cocoons, and related art
  • Time for Q&A and exploration

Blending science, music, and visual art, Lee's work invites audiences to consider the subtle intelligence and beauty of non-human collaborators. Whether you're a musician, artist, scientist, or just curious, this is not your average lunch hour concert.

About Catherine Lee

Considered a “new breed of instrumental specialist” (New Music Buff), Catherine Lee offers “immaculate, masterful oboe playing” (The Double Reed) with inspired musicality across genres. A Juno Award nominee, her second solo album Remote Together (2021, Redshift) received critical acclaim.

Lee’s recent work merges music with visual and tactile art, creating original compositions and pieces in collaboration with the domestic silkworm moth. Through sound, textile, video, and photography, she brings the world of Bombyx mori into vivid focus.
