Figurative sculpture class working in clay from a life model at Bath Artists’ Studios
£300 includes all materials, firing of 2 sculptures and model (£236 for under 25s)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Come along for a creative afternoon of figurative sculpture in the School Room at Bath Artists’ Studios. The model will hold one pose for five sessions which will be enough time for you to complete a sculpture. You will be working in clay directly from a life model, creating a life-like figure.
At the beginning you will be given tips to help with proportions and anatomy and you will be shown how to use callipers, take measurements and use plum lines. This range of techniques were used by the master sculptors and art academies of the past to more easily create a life-like sculpture and they will help you get the basics right.
This will be a friendly class for all levels where you can learn at your own pace. You will learn some new techniques and also tap into your own intuitive ability to sculpt what you see in clay. At the end you will hollow out your piece in preparation for firing. Your sculpture will then be fired in the Sculpture School's kiln.
Life sculpture offers a challenge and an immersive and therapeutic experience. It is not as difficult as everyone thinks and you will produce a sculpture unique to you and in your own style.
We have a large and well equipped school room with sculpture stands and a place for your sculpture to be stored between sessions. Armatures, clay and tools will all be provided and the cost of the model is included. You just need to come along.
In the middle of the class there will be a friendly tea break in the common room.
This class will carry on throughout the year with two blocks of five classes each term. Bath Sculpture School has a growing community of figurative sculptors who attend classes, exchange ideas and put on exhibitions from time to time. Those attending classes will also be able to join in regular sculpture club days and the new Stone Carving Club if this is of interest.
Please email me if you have any queries or wish to discuss the course, wish to book directly or are under 25.

ABOUT THE TUTOR
Olga is a figurative sculptor living and working in Bath. From an artistic family, of Norwegian and English extraction, she grew up in Scotland and studied sculpture for five years at Edinburgh College of Art. She studied under figurative sculptor Vincent Butler, who had been taught in Italy by Marino Marini and Giacomo Manzu. She was fortunate to learn traditional techniques, working from the model, casting life-sized work in plaster and small pieces in bronze, then specialising in stone carving. Olga also paints, has a degree in Art History from Edinburgh University and has taught art workshops in schools. She teaches a Tuesday afternoon and evening class at Bath Artists Studios as well as some weekend workshops. She is keen to share her knowledge and encourage and inspire others to take up sculpture.
