The Tube Challenge is the popular name for the pursuit of travelling to every London Underground station in the fastest time. Many people know about this, but what they probably don't know is that one of the young men in the first ever known team to do it - in 1959 - was the son of the then minister of Chislehurst Methodist Church.Furthermore, TfL installed labyrinth artworks at all stations in 2013, which are numbered in the order the stations were visited for the second world record set in 2009. The church also has its own seven-metre diameter labyrinth - the only Methodist one in the UK - and this makes it the most apt setting to have the first ever exhibition about the Tube Challenge. The record will be coming home.
There'll be photos and documents from the early days, videos, live talks, some things related to the Tube Challenge, some children's activities and more. And you can also see the church labyrinth, which apparently bears a resemblance to the one at Victoria. This is the event for anyone with the tiniest interest in the Tube Challenge, and who knows if it will ever happen again...
We also encourage people who don't live in the Chislehurst area to spend a bit more time in the picturesque village which has something for everyone.
