As a part of the City of Fremantle commitment to reconciliation, we are pleased to announce the next project as a part of the cities Truth Telling program.
In partnership with Centre for Stories, the Backyard Truth Telling Series is a multi-sited storytelling program that brings truth telling into the backyards of Walyalup residents to provide an opportunity for the local community to come together to connect, learn and listen to storytellers share their lived experiences, in their own voices, in their own way.
Each event will feature stories from both Indigenous and non-Indigenous members of the local community who will speak about difficult truths, hidden histories and reimagined futures, with a focus on stories that speak to the impacts of colonisation and to the resilience and self-determination of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
After stories are shared, audience members are invited to join informal yarning circles and share their own stories in a safe and supported space.
Enjoy local acoustic music by twilight with light food provided.
Your host for the evening will be the storytellers mentor, the wonderful Ron Bradfield Jnr.

Biographies: Mentor | Host - Ron Bradfield Jnr
Ron Bradfield Jnr is a saltwater Bard, Jawi man from the tip of the Dampier Peninsula, north of Rubibi (Broome) but grew up in Jambinu (Geraldton), Western Australia. He now calls Walyalup (Fremantle) his home. As the CYO (Chief Yarning Officer) of Yarns R Us, Ron facilitates cultural conversations across all levels of our communities, helping Australians to revisit and explore their own personal stories - so as to better consider their own connections to this place - their home. Ron is a storyteller and artist, revisiting his own past and reflecting on his survival stories and how they have informed who he is today. Hr is also the oldest child of his stolen generation mother and white father; a father himself; a veteran; a mental health lived-experience peer; a community artist and an independent curator. Ron works across all of regional and remote WA, other states and occasionally overseas.
