SNIWWOC will be hosting our annual Truth and Reconciliation event at Kwench Club bringing community members together for an evening of education, togetherness, remembrance, Truth and Reconciliation, in Victoria on September 30th 2024 from 5:30-7:30pm PST.
Join us to learn about the sacred Indigenous practice of Ribbon Skirt making and the significance it holds within the Indigenous community. You will have the unique opportunity to view these beautiful skirts made by Indigenous individuals, and learn about the importance of continuing these traditions.
You will also have the privilege to witness testimony from residential school survivors, the ones who did not make it as well as for honoring all indigenous communities.
Truth and Reconciliation, also known as orange shirt day, is a reminder of what was done in Canadian history that impacted the Indigenous people, and continues to impact generations of Indigenous communities. On this day we highlight how the conversation needs to be continued as a step for healing and reconciliation.
SNIWWOC would like to take this time and day to honor the people and their culture that was lost. You will hear from a variety of Indigenous speakers, community elders, and be witness to sacred knowledge, in the space that we will hold for all that would like to be part of this experience.
We are looking forward to seeing everyone, celebrating and giving a voice for those who could not. Light snacks and refreshments will be provided!
