About this Event
Trump, Andrew Jackson, & Tribal Sovereignty
Donald Trump has prominently hung a portrait of Andrew Jackson in the Oval Office. In 1830, Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act -- an act of ethnic cleansing -- displacing tens of thousands of Native Americans from their ancestral homelands east of the Mississippi and resulting in thousands of deaths. How have Andrew Jackson (that face on your $20) and Donald Trump abused Executive powers, and where does that overreach clash with tribal sovereignty? Come join us for a fascinating discussion with members of Brookline's Indigenous Peoples Celebration Committee, including Cherokee Nation Citizen Kailey Bennett and Brookline Indigenous History Footprints tour co-creator Paul McLean. This in-person event will delve into the historical context and current implications for tribal nations. Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn and engage. The event will be held at Hunneman Hall, Brookline Village Library, 361 Washington St. See you there!
