About this Event
Speculative Design, Social Design and Critical Design - politically rooted design practices shape the current understanding of design. Design and the conception of design have greatly expanded. We understand these movements as a reaction to the current socio-political climate. Designers interact with thematic foci such as feminism, climate activism or postcolonialism. But can design make a significant contribution to these pressing issues of our time?
In order to further develop as Designathon, we want to devote ourselves to the following question in the coming months: What is (power)critical design?
For this purpose, we will invite designers from different disciplines for four public conversations to Trouble Bubble — Design as a Critical Practice. All interviews which will be recorded live and later released as a podcast.
Our next Guest Afonso de Matos is a graphic/communication designer who just graduated in the Information Design Master programme at Design Academy Eindhoven. His final master project, Who Can Afford To Be Critical?, investigates the limits that class and labor impose upon a critical practice of design.
We invite Afonso de Matos to discuss the question of who can afford to design (power)critically at all?
The interview will be followed up by a meme workshop and concluded with an aperitif for a relaxed exchange.
All talks of Trouble Bubble - Design as a Critical Practice will be published as a podcast on our website afterwards.
