Imagine Count Basie went to Rio de Janeiro and combined his big band with the powerful and joyous energy of samba. Back by popular demand, Gafieira Rio Miami, the 11-piece band founded and led by Latin Grammy-winning bassist Diogo Brown, fuses samba, jazz, funk, and soul inspired by the Rio de Janeiro ballroom dance music samba de gafieira.The concert will feature lead vocalist Isa Duarte, 2X Latin GRAMMY winning percussionist Tony Succar, and world renowned samba dancers Eric and Abigail Celestino.
Gafieira Rio Miami fuses samba, jazz, and soul inspired by the joyous, 20th-century Rio de Janeiro ballroom dance music known as samba de gafieira. The band revives the gafieira style, and adds funk grooves and jazz improvisation.
Its live repertoire includes gorgeous arrangements of classics by Gilberto Gil, Djavan, Caetano Veloso, Jorge Benjor, Alcione, Wilson das Neves, Moacir Santos, and others.
Gafieira Rio Miami features artists that include multi-Latin Grammy nominee and percussionist Tony Succar for this performance together with world champion dancers Eric and Abigail Celestino who will fire up the show with their jaw-dropping moves.
Live music shows are presented in the historic Banyan Bowl amphitheater, an acoustically stunning amphitheater under a spectacular geodesic dome.
