This training offers a deep dive into the science and somatics of how trauma impacts the brain and nervous system, through the lens of the triune brain model. Participants will explore the three evolutionary layers of the brain—the reptilian brain, limbic system, and neocortex—and how each contributes to survival, emotional regulation, and higher-level cognition. Through a trauma-informed approach, this module examines how dysregulation can manifest in the body and how yoga and mindfulness practices can support nervous system resilience and repair.Students will gain practical tools to recognize trauma responses and learn to apply grounding, breath, movement, and stillness practices to foster safety, connection, and regulation. By integrating current neuroscience with embodied awareness, participants will be better equipped to create supportive, compassionate spaces for themselves and others.
