About this Event
Working with resin is amazing and the possibilities are endless - really! Each participant is given three 8" hexagon shaped baltic birch substrates to create your colour choices complete with embellishments. This will be a FAST-PACED workshop and although you will be given ample time in which to complete your final pieces, you will need to hustle to fit in all the amazing ideas and techniques during this 4 hour workshop - it goes by SO quickly! That's why we play/practice for an hour as part of the workshop so that you can test out your colours and newly-acquired resin skills prior to doing your final geodes. This alleviates the pressure of not being sure how things will go or if you like the colours chosen and this is what sets my studio apart from any other. Practice through Play! All supplies are included in the cost of the workshop but if you have any items (rocks, gems, jewelry, shiny objects) that you may want to include as part of your design, please bring them along.
Your Creative Coach BerylAnne will provide a demonstration and give you direction on how to prep, mix resin (pigment pastes & mica powders); move resin and how to control it to give you a desired result. We will be using the side-by-side technique of laying down the resin in order to maintain the individual colour lines of each segment of our geode. You will be taught the basics of resin but there are so many ways to create different looks with this amazing medium, only a few will be offered in this specific class. If you want to create something as a gift, you could do a hexagon as a "Birthstone" geode, or you can just do your favourite colour(s) to match your decor. WARNING: Resin Art is so much fun, you may find it slightly addictive.
Resin requires a minimum of 12 hours to cure so you won't be able to take your project home with you the same day. This is a teaching workshop where previous experience is not required but helpful (Age 14+). Dress accordingly as resin is impossible to remove once on your clothes (aprons and gloves are provided). Refreshments such as pop, water, coffee & tea and a some pre-packaged snacks like chocolate bars & chips are included but feel free to bring your own treats/beverages if you want. Lower level studio location so one flight of stairs with handrail are involved.
