About this Event

For our Season opening concert, we will be hosting a post-concert reception - please stick around and enjoy some food and drink with us!

Trio Tangere is an exciting ensemble with the striking edge of dual guitars and the melodic sounds of the violin.

The Trio continues to bring a variety of musical styles to the stage, mixing classical with contemporary world works. An audience favourite, Trio Tangere has performed at Canadian music festivals and concert series. Coming up in 2024 the Trio will be touring across BC and Alberta in October. The three members, Marc Djokic, violin, Jérôme Ducharme and Louis Trépanier, guitars, were already established virtuosi when they started performing together; from the first notes of the first rehearsal, they knew they had a magical simpatico in their playing.

This ensemble performs exciting repertoire from the select body of works already in existence for this instrument grouping, as well as new commissions and transcriptions. They have commissioned and debuted work from contemporary Canadian composers such as Matthias Maute, Richard Mascall and Christine Donkin.

Past concerts include performances and masterclasses at Cecilia Concerts in Halifax, Cambrian College in Sudbury, Music & Beyond festival in Ottawa, and at the historic Heliconian Hall in Toronto. Trio Tangere has performed at the Chapelle Historique du Bon-Pasteur in Montreal, as part of the Acces Culture concert series. In 2018 they embarked on their first US tour, performing in cities in Kentucky. The Trio has filmed four music videos in unique Canadian locations, produced by the classical video channel Mecenat Musica Noncerto.

Marc Djokic

Canadian violinist Marc Djokic is the concertmaster of the Orchestre classique de Montréal and music director of ART CRUSH (Ensembl’arts). He is a Mécénat Musica Prix Goyer recipient and winner of the 2020 ECMA Classical Recording of the Year for his debut album Solo Seven. Among other honours, Djokic has earned a Prix Opus and has taken on artist-in-residence positions at various institutions and music festivals since 2009. Over the past four years, he has appeared in over 100 music videos and video recordings.

An accomplished chamber musician, Djokic has toured Canada and internationally several times with organizations including BC Contact, Jeunesses Musicales, and Debut Atlantic. As a soloist Djokic has performed with orchestras such as the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the National Arts Centre Orchestra, and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. He will be premiering the violin concerto written for him by Robert Rival, Under the Shadow of the Cypresses, in a multi-city tour with several orchestras in 2022–2023.

Jérôme Ducharme

Since winning the Guitar Foundation of America International Competition, Jérôme Ducharme has become highly sought for solo recitals, chamber music projects, concerto performance as well as for teaching. He has been invited to perform in various festivals in Canada, U.S.A and Mexico, and has given concerts for numerous guitar societies and other concert series.

He recorded with Naxos (CD of the month, La Scena Musicale) and a DVD with Melbay (premier recordings of works by canadian composer Maxime McKinley) in addition to participating in CD’s featuring other artists.

Jérôme has taught at McGill University since 2011, and in 2019 began teaching positions at Conservatoire de Musique de Montréal. His students have won honors in competitions and have success in their professional life.

Louis Trépanier

Over a career that is now well into its third decade, Louis Trépanier has shown himself to be a seasoned chamber musician, occasional soloist, experienced pedagogue, composer, and arranger, always with his customary energy and sensitivity.

He is a founding member of the Canadian Guitar Quartet. With his two ensembles, as well as through various other collaborations, he has performed on three continents and judged competitions on the national and international levels.

He completed his formal musical education in 1998 at the Conservatoire de musique de Hull with Patrick Roux; Louis also furthered himself by working with leading musicians in masterclasses or in collaboration projects.

Since 2002, he has been teaching at the University of Ottawa’s School of Music, where he is the Coordinator of the Guitar Sector.
