Trio Subtonic is a genre bending power trio out of Portland, Oregon that blends groove heavy funk, experimental soundscapes and soaring soul jazz. Led by keyboardist Galen Clark (Anna Tivel, Outer Orbit, Sleater-Kinney), Subtonic explores a dynamic range of original compositions and reimagined covers, with an emphasis on improvisation and pushing genre boundaries. The band features Micah Hummel (Anna Tivel, Quickly Quickly, Portland Cello Project) on drums and Bill Athens (Sleater-Kinney, Joanna Wang, Three Leg Torso) on bass. The trio often expands to a quartet featuring special guests such as Andy Coe, Nicole McCabe, Cyrus Nabipoor, Dan Balmer, Jack Radsliff and more.
