Trick-Star is a new class designed for dogs and handlers who already have solid foundational obedience, but are ready to liven up your daily dog-routine, and add some fun to function. In this Novice level, we will use luring and problem solving to help dogs learn creative, entertaining, and helpful new behaviors that develop their brain, communication skills, and body awareness. If this year has found you and your dog cooped up, looking for new outlets, or yearning to at least dazzle your friends on social media (since we haven’t in person) this class is for you. Your dog will learn tricks from tik-tok worthy dance moves, to stunts that might earn them a role in the next movie casting call. Though seriously entertaining, the tricks you will both learn will be valuable for more than just the ‘gram. These new behaviours will build strength, body awareness, and versatility that you and your dog will be able to rely on to recover from or prevent injury.
You can enter the class with your tools (prong and ecollar) but you will switch to a flat or martingale collar. You will need 6 ft leash, high (cheese, meat) and low value treats (dry/dehydrated food), spreadable treat (peanut butter, cream cheese etc) and plastic or wood serving spoon for the first class, as well as 1-2 interactive (tug) toys.
Instructor: Brittany Pearson her dog Fawkes, who has his Novice, Intermediate, and Advanced trick titles (with 2 points toward expert), has completed his CGN and CD, and runs FawkesTrot Adventures.
This course will allow handlers and dogs to earn trick titles up to and including Novice and Intermediate.
