About this Event
We, the artists, would like to pay our respects and acknowledge the original peoples of this local area. We are honoured to be invited onto Gadigal country and to be given the opportunity to showcase the artwork and stories from our country.
This exhibitions title shows, even though we are from different tribal groups, we all have that connection to each other. “Bloodline” by definition means a set of ancestors or line of decent of an important person. This bloodline is the link that connects us to each other.
This connection is visible, particularly in this exhibition by the similar symbols and motifs we use in our pieces. These symbols and designs are passed down through the bloodline knowledge of our elders.
We also get a lot of inspiration from our body art, rock art and our carved trees. These designs have been “contemporised” in an attempt to repair the gap caused by the destruction and loss of our traditional knowledge.
If you would also like to meet the 3 artists, please join us at the gallery on Saturday Sept 3rd at 11-12:30pm for a guided tour and to hear their personal stories around their art.
