Join Australian photographer Trent Parke for a two day practical workshop of shooting, editing and sequencing, as Trent shares how he uses photography as a tool for communicating stories and narratives.The workshop will also include a short portfolio review, and Trent will be assisted by Martin Parr, who will help deliver the workshop across the two days.
The workshop will take place in Bristol while Trent is on a rare trip to the UK to mark the European premiere of his latest work, Monument, which is on display at Martin Parr Foundation from 03 OCT to 22 DEC 2024.
DAY 1 / SHOOTING
The first day will begin at the Foundation with a group session to review participants’ portfolios, in which Trent Parke, Martin Parr and your fellow photographers will provide feedback on your project. Trent will then give a talk about his creative practice including guidance for a full afternoon of shooting in Bristol city centre. After shooting, participants will meet for dinner and drinks in the evening. (Teas / coffees, lunch and dinner included.)
DAY 2 / REVIEW AND SEQUENCE
Participants will meet at the Foundation to process and review their images from the day before, guided by Trent. The top images from each participant will then be printed for an afternoon of sequencing activities, followed by a further talk by Trent on bookmaking. (Teas / coffees and lunch included.)
WHAT TO BRING
– a portfolio of digital images from one of your projects for the group review session
– a digital camera with enough batteries and memory for a full afternoon of shooting
– a laptop
– weather appropriate clothing
APPLICATION PROCESS
Please submit up to 15 images from one project along with a brief statement via email to [email protected]
– images must be JPEG format and no more than 2MB
– please use ‘WORKSHOP APPLICATION / YOUR NAME’ as the email heading
– please either attach the images to the email or include a WeTransfer download link
– application deadline 09 SEPT
– successful applicants will be notified by 15 SEPT and be sent a link for payment, which will be due within one week to confirm the place
