Discover Surrey’s Natural and Cultural Wonders: A Hike from Leatherhead to Denbies Wine Estate!
If you are looking for a hike that combines scenic views, diverse wildlife and historical landmarks, then this is the one for you. You will start from Goring and Streatley station and cross the Thames to climb up the hills of the Goring Gap, a geological feature created by the last Ice Age. You will enjoy stunning panoramas from Lough Down, Common Wood and Holies Hanging, where you can also see ancient earthworks and burial mounds. Then you will descend to the river and follow the Thames Path, passing by Hattonhill Shaw and Hartslock Wood, two Local Wildlife Sites that host rare plants and animals. You will finish your hike in Pangbourne, a charming village with literary connections to Kenneth Grahame and Jerome K. Jerome. This hike is a great opportunity to discover the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Goring Gap and the Thames Valley. Don’t miss it!

Scenic: This hike is approximately 15.83km long with a total ascension of 287 meters. As such this hike has is perfect for someone looking for a good days worth of walking but still wants to have time to stop and admire the scenary. The estimated walking time is 4hrs 26mins. Please note that to join, you need to be 18 years or older and physically fit enough to complete the hike unaided.
For your safety, make sure to wear comfy walking shoes/boots with good grip. Choose synthetic-based gym shorts, leggings, or non-cotton based jogging bottoms (no jeans or chinos) and bring waterproofs. Don't forget to dress in layers and protect yourself with sunscreen!
Cost of the Hike
Each hike costs £15.00 per person (plus an Eventbrite booking fee). No refunds, but if needed, we can transfer your ticket to another hike (subject to event capacity).
To ensure everyone's safety and proper planning, please book via Eventbrite by the night before (23rd September). This helps us keep track of attendees and allows for easy communication before, during, and after the hike.
Safety is our top priority, and any cancellations due to train strikes or extreme weather will be rescheduled. We'll update you on Eventbrite if any changes occur.
