About this Event
About the artist: Gustavo is one of the artists in Treefall’s current exhibition, From the Cup and is also the Dean of Visual Arts at the New World School of the Arts in Miami.
This workshop combines writing with alternative photographic processes to examine how identity is shaped by place, memory, and everyday experience. Participants begin with the “I Am From” poem framework, using structured prompts to write about objects, environments, routines, and histories that inform their sense of self.
The writing portion transitions into hands-on image-making through lumen prints and cyanotypes. Participants work with found objects, natural materials, and sunlight to produce camera-less photographs that translate written ideas into visual form. Emphasis is placed on process, material experimentation, and the relationship between light, time, and environment.
The workshop supports multiple ways of thinking and making, encouraging participants to move between language and image without prioritizing one over the other. You don't need any prior experience.
Fee: suggested donation of $20 to cover materials, instruction, and operations. You can pay in person at the workshop.
