The area in and around the Carter Center property is full of Atlanta history, so join this tour to find out what natural and historic surprises await, such as General Sherman's "visit" during the Civil War's Battle of Atlanta and an elegant centuries-old sawtooth oak. Learn about the Atlanta protest movement of the 1960's and 70's when "white flight" created a need for car transportation and the thousands of trees that paid the price. Observe trees planted by Trees Atlanta in the 1980's after the Carter Center was constructed. You will even discover some "urban archaeology" of a lost neighborhood! This tour is perfect for history and nature lovers.About the docent: Stephany Cross is an Atlanta native and graduate of UGA (go Dogs).
