“Tree Time” at Mead Botanical Garden: Sip, Stroll, and Celebrate Florida Trees!
Grab your walking shoes and get ready for an evening that blends nature, knowledge, and community in one unforgettable experience! “Tree Time” at Mead Botanical Garden invites you to sip, stroll, and explore 28 tree species ideal for Florida yards. Enjoy drinks and lite bites as you learn expert tips on selecting, planting, and caring for trees that thrive in our local environment. Along the way, discover ways to “green up” Winter Park and make your own landscape a flourishing part of the urban ecosystem.
Set amid 47 acres of serene, natural beauty in the heart of Winter Park, Mead Botanical Garden offers a rare chance to immerse yourself in nature without leaving the city. Our knowledgeable MBG volunteers will guide two tours at 5:15 p.m. and 5:40 p.m., stopping at key trees to share their unique characteristics — from preferred soil and light conditions to the wildlife they support. For guests who prefer to take it slow, a slideshow in the Azalea Lodge will feature all the trees on tour, complete with names and care tips, so you can still enjoy a rich learning experience indoors.
At 6:30 p.m., the excitement continues with a panel discussion featuring Winter Park’s top environmental minds, moderated by Charley Williams, panelists include Dr. Leslie Poole, environmental studies professor and author. Winter Park Mayor Sheila DeCiccio, Josh Nye, certified arborist and Urban Forestry Director. Catherine Bowman, botanist, ecologist, and former Florida Native Plant Society president has organized the tours and will report on the controlled burn in the native plant area. They’ll tackle the pressing challenges of urban tree management, explore strategies for expanding green spaces, and answer your questions. Bring your curiosity, ideas, and your passion for making Winter Park greener!
This is an evening for everyone who loves nature, wants to learn, and enjoys lively conversation. Whether you’re a homeowner looking to enhance your yard, a nature enthusiast eager to explore, or simply someone who wants to connect with your community in a beautiful outdoor setting, “Tree Time” promises inspiration, practical knowledge, and fun.
“Tree Time” is proudly sponsored by Mead Botanical Garden, Inc. and the Winter Park Land Trust, two independent 501(c)3 nonprofits dedicated to preserving, expanding, and celebrating green spaces throughout Winter Park.
