About this Event
Tree Tapping for Syrup Production
This workshop will offer a hands-on experience in the process of tapping trees to produce syrup. Using the black walnut trees in NWP’s buffer as a practical example, participants will actively learn every step of the process, from selecting the right tree and information on how to collect and boil sap.
Hands-On Components:
-Participants will identify suitable trees, drill tap holes, insert taps, and set up sap collection containers under the guidance of an instructor.
-Participants will learn tree tapping skills, including the proper use of tools and techniques to ensure tree health and long-term sustainability.
Key Takeaways:
-A clear understanding of how sustainable syrup production complements the ecological benefits of riparian buffers, such as improved water quality and enhanced biodiversity.
- The process of boiling tree sap into syrup will be explained, with participants will understand key steps to the transformation from sap to syrup.
-Insight into the critical role of healthy riparian buffers in protecting stream quality, reducing pollution runoff, and serving as a carbon sink to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
