About this Event
Dawn Tree (Tulsa), to Exhibit TREE SPIRIT-UAL at Positive Space Tulsa Beginning September 7
Tree Spirit-ual is a personal artistic display and study on what masculine and feminine mean to artist Dawn Tree. The use of certain colors and cartoon imagery help her illustrate how genders are fluid and can work together. The use of certain textures, including fabric, paper, wood and bamboo sheets, help aid the aspect of fluidity. Tree wants you to channel your childlike mind and spirit and open yourself to perspectives that aren’t firmly masculine or feminine, but both.
About the Artist: Based in Tulsa, OK, Dawn Tree is a professional graphic and abstract surrealist neo-expressionist artist. Tree draws inspiration from and paints primarily on all forms of wood and fabric. Tree is the owner of Underground Tree Studios, with programs run primarily out of community recreation centers. In 2019, Tree published a graphic art history book entitled Tulsa’s Black Wall Street: A Modernized Revelation.
Tree Spirit-ual, by Dawn Tree, opens 5-9pm, Saturday, September 7, 2024, with an Artist Talk at 6:30pm, and will continue through Saturday, September 28. Gallery hours during the exhibit: Thurs, 6-8pm; Fri, 5-9pm; Sat, 12pm-5pm and by appointment.
A portion of sales will be donated to NOISE, a grassroots organization of volunteers who formed to assist families of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Relatives. In addition to bringing awareness, NOISE works with families to meet other needs that will support their desire to find their missing loved one or bring justice to a relative that has been lost.
