You are invited to a green-screen planting festival on Saturday, May 4, 10am - 2pm, at Pilgrim Baptist Church, 732 Central Ave. W., Saint Paul!
At this is a family-friendly event, everyone can plant at least 1 small tree seedling, and probably many more! Together, we will plant a few hundred seedlings representing 20 species of native trees and shrubs in a an L-shaped space along the northeast corner of the community garden.
We will teach you how to plant and how to mulch, and invite you to stay for a light lunch. Restrooms and refreshments will be provided on site.
In a closing ceremony that roots this project into the local history of the Rondo Community, we will take a walking tour to the Rondo Plaza and back, and invite each participant to contribute their thoughts and wishes to a time capsule that will be buried on site.
Pilgrim’s community garden space is being transformed with the working relationships that Nate Galloway has developed with the MN-Department of Natural Resources, Univ. of MN Student's Engineers Without Borders, Renewing the Countryside, Great River Greening, Urban Farm and Garden Alliance, Ramsey County Master Gardeners, Maxfield Elementary 5th grade Science Students, and our Scouts. Construction is already under way on a rainwater catchments system from new gutters on our garden shed, new composting area, accessible pathways and raised garden boxes. All of improvement will be done at no cost to our church. Brother Galloway has also organized a Community Tree Planting Day at our Garden, on Sat. May 4th, from 10am - 2:00 pm.
