Learn how to easily identify different species and gain useful skills for life!
About this Event

Join our Tree, Plant and Wildlife ID Workshop and Walk this Autumn!

Spend a couple of enjoyable hours learning how to identify and record a diversity of trees, plants, flowers and wildlife. We are delighted to welcome Phil Taylor from Green Underwing Wildlife Education. We'll use phone apps, and also have paper surveys available for non-phone users.

We'll meet at Southlands Church on Bishopthorpe Road for an introduction. We'll then take a stroll to look at nature along the riverside, and through the lovely meadows, parks and woods in the Millennium Bridge area. We offer free refreshments and a chance to socialise at the Church afterwards.

You'll improve your nature ID and digital skills, tune into nature, meet like-minded people, gain useful skills for life, and impress your friends! :)

Hope you can join us!

Practicalities

Meet at 2:00pm in Southlands Church. We'll be there from 1.45pm. Look for the friendly people in purple York Bike Belles tops!

Please allow 2 hours for the Workshop and Walk. The Walk will take place at a steady pace, with pauses to enjoy the nature around us. Children accompanied by an adult are welcome.

Please check the weather forecast beforehand and wear suitable clothing. Bring any personal Medic*tion. There are toilets at the start point in Southlands Church. The Church and walking route have level, hard-surfaced access. Please do not attend if you are unwell.

Please travel to the activity by walking, cycling or public transport if you can. All start points are easily accessible by foot, bike or bus. Check out York's Cycle Routes and Bus Information.

Take the Green Route!

Take the Green Route! is an exciting NEW project for people and nature in York.

Check out the rest of our Autumn Nature Programme of Nature Walks, Rides, Workshops and Socials. You'll feel happier and more relaxed, enjoy some gentle exercise, have fun learning in small, friendly groups, and help create wilder spaces to restore our natural world.

Take the Green Route! is made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund. Thanks to National Lottery players, this two-year project will support a wide range of local people to enjoy nature-friendly walking, wheeling and cycling lifestyles across York.

Finally, can you help our work continue? Our activities are offered free to York residents. We rely on donations and grants to fund our work towards a healthy, green and kind York. Donate here.
