About this Event
Millions of people live in urban communities with poor access to greenspace and the benefits of trees. Staff from the Woodland Trust will talk about new research into disparities in urban tree cover in UK towns and cities. They will demonstrate the Tree Equity Score - a free online mapping tool that combines data on urban trees with data on heat, air pollution, health and more to identify the places in towns and cities where increased tree cover is most urgently needed. They will share some work from pilot projects where they are putting this into practice with communities.https://www.woodlandtrust.org.uk/
Speakers:
Adam Cormack
Adam is head of campaigning for the Woodland Trust, the UK’s largest conservation charity. He leads a team working on programmes to protect ancient woodland, plant trees in towns and cities with communities and schools and mobilize supporters on campaigns. For the past three years Adam has been leading the Trust’s work on tree equity - highlighting disparities in urban tree cover and the consequences for climate resilience and public health. Aside from nature, his other passion is music.
Katie Thompson
As a Community Engagement Officer for the Woodland Trust Smithills Estate in Bolton, I’m a wildlife storyteller who's passionate about how community and communication can aid and educate in conservation. I love people engagement, especially videography, community work and events. I feel passionately about getting young people involved in nature, including trying to make communications easy to digest and funny to reach beyond the typical environmental audience that most content reaches.
