Our Treatment Assistant Course teaches the knowledge and skills needed to accurately prepare and administer oral hydration and oral and topical medications to wildlife patients, under the guidance of a Treatment Person.
The course covers
• the role of the Treatment Assistant
• record-keeping (electronic, hard-copy, whiteboard, patient identification)
• terminology
• infection control
• medications & hydration used on shift
• wound care and physiotherapy
• managing different species
• stages of rehabilitation
• euthanasia
This course is for Kanyana volunteers ONLY.
Volunteers must have:
• Completed Advanced Tube Feeding (ATF) Competencies
• Completed Bobtail Nursing (BN) Competencies
• Been an ATF and BN on a shift for at least 3 months
• Have good communication and time management skills
• Have good mathematical skills
• Have an approved Mentor
Kanyana volunteers will need to be guided and progressively signed off by an approved mentor, usually within 3-6 months after the course date (depending on scope for practice). The mentor must have completed their Treatment Person competencies and be able to actively oversee practice and progression on shift.

• Saturday 12 February, 9am – 2pm
• Sunday 7 August, 9am – 2pm
Fees
• Kanyana volunteer: $35
• Kanyana volunteer refresher: free
• TryBooking fee: 50c

About our Training
Kanyana Wildlife has many years of experience in providing training and skills development to volunteers, wildlife carers, vet students and mine site workers. Our courses explore best practice wildlife care for different species, situations and skill levels and all participants are provided with hands on experience and comprehensive resources. Kanyana was a winner of a Business Excellence Award in 2014 for our training and development program for volunteers and staff.
